I told myself I wasn't going to watch TV coverage of "it" this year - the "Second Anniversary", that is. I told myself and prepped myself to remember "it" as
"it" was ... and not watch or renew.
But, I did. And, as I feared, it was actually worse, in context, than it was two years ago when it happened.
Seeing the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center "fall again" this past week was, I truly think, more heartbreaking and gut wrenching than when it
happened. More dastardly. More evil. More everything
But, thank the Lord for one program I saw, which ended with some semblance of hope for the future. It was a PBS film about New York City, in general, that included
a quote from former Governor Mario Cuomo, on how we should remember "The Towers". Now, whether you agree with his overall politics, or not, he is a brilliant
historian. Here is what he said ... paraphrased.
All religions have two principles that they share in common: 1) Treat one another as Brother and Sister, showing respect and dignity,
because we are "like" things, and, 2) Repair the universe. That is, work together to make the experience better.
Cuomo concludes ... "All religions share these fundamentals ... and that's all the religion you need, really, to make a success of this planet. And I'd like
to see that in a 9/11 remembrance, somewhere ... captured somehow."
Gosh, it sounds so easy. So damned easy.
