Let's Keep A Little Human Dignity
In Sports Journalism

I take a great amount of pride in being a broadcast sports journalist ... but, probably more pride in just associating with the men and women who make it their business to report on what I call "The Universal Glue" - which IS sport.

So, it's with a great amount of concern that I discuss something I heard this past week that just turned my stomach. Enter a "Johnny-come-lately" so-called "God's Gift to Sports Journalism" fellow - some guy named "SNOOP" something - on a local all-sports station, whose mere entry level position entitles him to report the scores and give the highlights. Sort of a top of the hour "Update Guy".

Well, here was Snoop What-ever-his-name's LEAD item - repeat LEAD ITEM - last Thursday at 2 p.m.:

"Hey ... Austin now has a most eligible bachelor ... that's right ... Lance Armstrong's NOW A SINGLE GUY..."

It was delivered upbeat and laughingly ... like... Hey, chicks, come and get'em. The 3 p.m. update was worse, and before anyone attacks my journalistic license, I've paraphrased it, but you catch the drift:

"Hey, Hey, line up ladies ... Lance Armstrong is divorcing his wife and kids...!"
I kid you not ! It was every bit as disgusting as I've reported it.

Well, here are two words for our new journalistic colleague, "Snoop": GET OUT! Get out of the business before we run you out. Go park cars at the Hyatt, turn on the radio in the up-ramp, and study how it SHOULD be done.

Or just maybe, Snoop ... and your ilk ... just maybe develop some better judgment, some common sense, a little heart, and maybe even scratch the surface of human dignity. Not to mention apologizing to the individuals, including wife and children, who deserve better than your absolute lack of class and utter disregard for personal sensitivities.

Am I ticked? You damn right I am!

HAVE A GREAT WEEK, EVERYONE...
BE WISE. WORK HARD. BE CRAZY. TRY SOMETHING NEW!
