SO, WHO WON THE ELECTIONS, EH?
Waking up the morning after election night, many of us looked around and said, "...OK, who won?" Well, that is unless you live in San Antonio, Texas, where you actually woke up in Florida, and the calendar read "November, 2000" ... but that's a whole 'nother story.
Who Won and Who Lost ... was the water cooler topic of the morning. And, I'm sure ... in fact I know that there were plenty of seriously bruised egos, and some falsely inflated ones to go around. Face it - ego has got to be 99% of politics, or at least, that's my opinion. I'm sure Email Emma will let me know how wet I am on that one ... but consider this: anyone who spends over fifty MILL, mostly out of his own pocket, to get elected to a relatively non-paying job, has GOT to have one hell-of-an ego, don't 'cha know!
BUT, I GOT MY "FIX"...I'M GOOD FOR A WHILE!
I was actually one of those fools who stayed up all night, election night, watching and listening, phoning and kibitzing, finding out the latest. My friends know that if I had to pick ONE THING that stands out in all of my broadcasting career, it would be "election returns". Give me a good dog catcher race, and I'm there. I hyperventilate over the numbers. Hell, in a graduate statistical forecasting course in college ... when everyone else was writing papers projecting Coca Cola sales for the next year, I was off in a corner writing about CBS Voter Profile Analysis - what would later be known as "exit polling".
And so, the results are all in - I got my "fix", and all is well in my little statistical world. And outside my little bubble, I have this observation on the outcome. Sure, we're divided on some issues. There's nothing wrong with that. And so, I offer this:
...if you won, enjoy it...
...now, the work begins.
...if you lost, get over it...
...let the work continue.
...and, if you don't care, then get with it!
...it does matter.
HAVE A GOOD WEEK, EVERYONE...
